Yesterday was the day for Chinese to eat Zongzi. Eating Zongzi is a festival to honour Qu Yuan, a pioneer poet of ancient China. According to the older generation Qu Yuan was a famous poet who concerned a lot about his country. Unfortunately, with his love to the country it aroused the jeolousy of the King and subsequently been banished to a remote area. Due to his disappointment towards the government he committed suicide in Miluo river. The Chinese back then felt sad over the loss of this poet. They searched around the rive in hope of finding the deceased body and at the same time throwing Zongzi in the river in order to keep the fishes from eating Qu Yuan's body.
There are a few types of Zongzi nowadays with different tastes. I would prefer the yellowish glutionous rice which to be tasted together with brown sugar than the original 'bahchang' which wrapped with glutionous rice, meat, egg yolk, mushrooms and etc. But somehow, the glutionous rice is very filling and the best way is to be accompanied by chinese tea... I do not have any recipe here to share coz I dun really enjoy much Zongzi. You can go google if you like to make your own zongzi... it's fun and not that difficult to make.
